Question: Am i going to suffer withdrawals from opiates?

Well first of all I have finally quit smoking marijuana after about 5 years. I have no urge to smoke weed right now, my mind is feeling clearer so that is a good thing. I am also taking 2mg of klonopin a day for the last 2 years but I know that when I decide to go off of those I will do a very slow taper. Anways I am wondering will I have withdrawals from taking vicodin and percocet on a regular basis for the last two- three months. I've been taking about 20- 30 mg a day of hydrocodone or oxycodone only once a day for like 4- 5 days out of the week. I notice after the second day of not having them I start to feel very out of it and need to take some to feel better. I know I am going to suffer some sort of withdrawals but are they going to be as bad as let say a heroin user who has been using for 5 years. Thanks and please give me any advice, im trying to sober myself up.

Yes, you will have withdrawals. The first thing I have to suggest is that you do not taper yourself off the Klonopin without a doctor. There are only two things that can lead to death when you are physically withdrawing 1- alcohol and 2- benzo's (or mild tranquilizers like Klonopin). So consult your prescribing MD before you begin to cut down. In coming off of the opiates you will certainly be withdrawing both physically and mentally. You may feel like you are crawling out of your skin but if you seek the medical advice of a doctor they might help you to make this process a lot easier and comfortable. I give you props for first off quiting the pot and wanting to get off of the Klonopin and opiates. Also know that a sober way of life can be amazing--I wish you the best.

YES you will suffer withdrawals. Some things you may experience: * Abdominal pain * Agitation * Diarrhea * Dilated pupils * Goose bumps * Nausea * Runny nose * Sweating * Vomiting Please don't go through the withdrawal process alone. I would suggest having friends/ family to help you so you don't suffer alone. You are going a good thing in helping yourself. Pain medications are extremely addictive...furthermore, they are very difficult to stop.

You need to either tapper off or go to a hospital where they will monitor your withdraw. Why have you been taking so much drugs? If it's been for recreation only then I suggest going to the hospital to quit cold turkey. If you were taking them for medical reasons, then taper off. Withdraw should not be too bad. You say you only used for 2-3 months. You will probably only have some stomach ache, maybe throwing up, sweats. But that's probably where it will end.

Reduce the dose and taper off gradually instead of abruptly. You can use a pill splitter and cut it in half...thirds...etc. I admire your strength and wish you the best of luck.
